Artists Statement
The natural environment and solitude are two themes that I continue to explore in my work. I focus on what I term environmental landscapes~paintings that combine the reality of the natural environment with personal interpretation. I am interested in the real and perceived power of nature; the healing, rejuvenation and symbolism found through and in nature. The images are derived from a single or several journeys where I explore~primarily the outside world. Earthforms and places discovered on these journeys are the primary inspiration for my work.
Theodoras paintings have been shown nationally since 1989. Individual exhibitions have been held in metropolitan Washington; Baltimore and Cumberland, Maryland; Wilmington, Delaware; Naples, Florida, and Birmingham, Alabama. Her work has been shown in over one hundred juried shows across the country. She is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Montana Watercolor Society, the Alabama Watercolor Society, the Southern Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. Theodora earned a MFA from Syracuse University.
Her work also has been featured in the American Artist Watercolor magazine, Fall 2001, with an article titled, Artistic Perceptions. Her work was selected for inclusion in The Best of Watercolor, published by Rockport Publishers Inc. and the Encyclopedia of Living Artists, 11th Edition, ArtNetwork. Commissions include both portraits and commercial pieces. She is an adjunct professor at Marymount University and holds classes in painting for Fairfax County.
