Biography
 
Elaine Stone Wagner is a native of Warren, Pennsylvania.She was
educated at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and Moore
College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she received a B.F.A. degree
Summa Cum Laude in fashion design. After college, she worked as a
fashion illustrator and fashion coordinator for a major women's dress
house in New York.
 
She moved to Spartanburg with her husband, Dr. W. S. Wagner, in 1970. She has continued to pursue her interest in painting in Spartanburg. She taught painting in the Art School of the Spartanburg County Museum of Art for many years, and was on the faculty of Wofford College, where she taught the studio art program from 1977 until she retired in 1997.
 
Her paintings are represented in many private collections in the U. S. A. and Europe, and in the collections of a number of institutions which include First Federal Savings and Loan of Spartanburg, Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, Bankers Trust and the Spartanburg County Museum of Art.
 
Her honors include selection to show in South Carolina Arts Commission Shows, a number of awards of excellence and merit in the biennial National League of American Pen Women's South Carolina State Shows and selection for this organizations national shows at the Kennedy Art Center in Washington, DC, purchase awards and other prizes at the Sidewalk Art Show in Spartanburg, having a painting chosen for the national exhibition of Artists' Society International in San Francisco, and having a painting chosen for inclusion in the traveling show selected from the Southern Watercolor Society's 23rd Annual Exhibition 2000. She is a signature member of the South Carolina Watercolor Society, and her work has been selected for showing in a number of this organization's traveling shows.
