Mary Montague Sikes
Mary Montague Sikes is living her dream of becoming an artist. Her love of color and composition are evident in the large acrylic canvases she has created for more than 25 years. After attending the College of William and Mary and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she earned a MFA in painting, she has continued to study under well-known painters, including Robert Burridge, Mary Ann Beckwith, Janet Rogers, Mary Alice Braukman, and many more. Most recently she has developed an interest in experimental water media. Believing she should share her love of creativity with the community, she continues to teach art in elementary school and over the years has touched the lives of hundreds of children and young people through her teaching. Winner of numerous awards for her pastels, acrylic paintings, sculpture, and photography, she has been featured in many one-person exhibitions. Her paintings are in public and private collections in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. As a member of the National League of American Pen Women in both arts and letters, she created a panel, Angel of the Earth and Sky for the Tapestry for Peace project. The 60-panel work of art is designed to travel throughout the world with the mission of peace. The artwork and photographs of this Virginia artist enhance the coffee table book, Hotels to Remember, available from BookWaves at www.bookwaves.net. Signed and numbered limited edition fine art prints from her book are available on her web site, www.marymontaguesikes.com. Her work is on view at Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, VA and at Petersburg Regional Art Center ain Petersburg, VA.
