Artist Statement:
Joy Brinkley-Hill, WSNC signature member, is a North Carolina native and primarily a self-taught artist. She developed her own personal style while studying with nationally known and local watercolor artists. A tribute to her success, she has acquired signature status with the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.
Her works have been exhibited in North Carolina shows in Ahoskie, New Bern, Morehead City, Rocky Mount, LaGrange, Greenville, Washington, Nags Head, Manteo, Gastonia, Boone and Edenton. Additionally, she has been juried in several shows. Several of her works hang in various corporate and locally owned businesses.
- Like many other artists, she always loved drawing and painting as a child. My favorite subjects are people and nature. A purist, Joy does not use tricks or gimmicks in her paintings. She says that painting is an endless journey of learning; it can also be a spiritual journey.
Growing up on a farm in rural North Carolina taught me a work ethic that has carried through to my painting; because one rule of painting is the more work you put into it, the more you get out of it.
